Handwriting is a crucial aspect of education in the early years of schooling which is either misunderstood overlooked by both teachers and parents. 'Uniform handwriting style' is a kind of improvisation promoted by teachers and parents in recent years. Though the idea is good, it is important to be aware of the definition of uniformity in terms of handwriting which considered as a part of human personality. This distinctive awareness can influence the methods of teaching handwriting we apply. If our aim is to see perfect and similar handwriting samples of handwriting in the notebooks of all the students, it is mandatory for us to make the children adopt an effective learning method such as cursive writing. Before committing yourself to the aim, one should it raise two questions. The first one is whether the expectation about your child’s handwriting is realistic? and the second one is whether it is desirable? Answering both these questions in affirmation may be hard but it requires contemplation as an answer is compulsory.

All the above arguments are important for a school going student who needs to score good in exams but it has long term side effects. Let’s understand what are those side effects of teaching uniform handwriting patterns to students. The first one is graphology. It is the science that is based on using one's handwriting as a criterion to measure one's personality. If the principles and findings of graphology is true, all the students writing in a similar manner would imply that all of them have the same mindset. It is unlikely since every student belong to and come from different backgrounds and have had their exposure to a vast range of influences with common features. The handwriting of a child evolves and stabilizes with a long time, is the result of the amalgamation of numerous influences both physiological and psychological.

With the above statements, we are not ruling out the aspect of uniformity with respect to handwriting. The reason is simple. There are multiple ways with which diversity and uniformity can coexist without contradicting to each other. There are several ways for that and handwriting online is an attempt of Global Academy to influence the handwriting of students. Students need to understand that good handwriting is all about cultivating and following the fundamental principles of writing including sitting posture, pencil grip, paper positioning, hand movement and zones. It has little to do with aesthetics. What matters the most is legibility and not the curves.
