Handwriting is the reflection of ones thoughts. We write what we think, it is a be defined as writing with one’s own hands. Just as how a computer can display a sentence in different fonts, handwriting can be different for different people. Even twins won’t have similar handwriting even though they look similar. Certain people will be able to copy another person’s handwriting but it will never be the perfect copy of it. Many characteristics make handwriting different.
• Shape of letters
• Writing type (running alphabets, cursive, capital letters, etc.)
• Pressure applied on the pen to write.
• Size and thickness of letters
• Slopes of letters
These characteristics determine a type of handwriting of a person in various concepts such as good or bad, legible or not, etc. A bad handwriting would need to be changed through practice. Whether he is an adult or a child, a good handwriting is very much important for a person. It should be able to express what the person has meant.
Handwriting is the basic apparatus required to do home works and class works, note making, to develop writing skills, write test, etc. So, what is a good handwriting?
A good handwriting is legible, fluent and elegant. It should be able to convey the message written on the paper. All the requirements must be followed while writing something, in order to understand the content well.
A good handwriting does not only have to be for writing legibly, handwriting can also be the exercise for brain development. When something is beautiful we tend to remember them easily. Same goes with handwriting, if written beautifully, you will easily understand and remember things. In case of young children, teachers must possess a good handwriting and train them to write in good handwriting. Teacher can make them practice how to shape letters, how to join them and how to form phrases and sentences.
A good handwriting can attract good marks. In subjective form of test papers when a teacher has to correct long answers, it is important that the answers are to the point and legible so that teachers can easily understand the content. A good handwriting can play a major role in securing good marks. If a teacher can’t understand an answer it will be difficult and frustrating for correction. This may lead to losing of unnecessary marks. Certain schools promote good handwriting in answer sheets by rewarding marks for it.
Good handwriting tempts a person to write often. If a person loves his/her handwriting they would often find reasons to write, this will enhance writing skills which in turn will develop soft skills of a person. Handwriting boosts confidence of a person as it is an evaluating criteria in many public and private job sectors.
A person can develop a good handwriting through various methods. Many websites and products provide tools required for improving handwriting. Improving a handwriting is not a difficult task. A person can practice every day for minimum one hour.
First and foremost step is to get the right materials to practice your handwriting. Next, is to find a suitable position for practising the handwriting. A good and steady table along with chair that must be adjustable as per comfort for concentration. Practice constantly for better result. It is not that it should be part of everyday routine but at least it should be consistent at the time of learning. If a person misses a day of practice he/she should make sure to continue the next day. In order to achieve a good handwriting, a person should formulate a time- table and incorporate all his/ her work and follow it thoroughly.
The purpose of handwriting depends on you. For a child it is to get good grades. For others to become writers or note taking. It is important for everyone to develop good handwriting for whatever the reason.
In order to achieve a good handwriting one must have to follow certain steps. Some of them are:


 Choosing right pen
It is important to choose a good pen in order to write easily. Ink pens are best pens to use while practising to write. Its nibs support to illustrate neat and rapid writing.
 Choose right paper
While practising it is important to use a good paper. The paper should be leaf free and should have writing lines in order to write with flow.
 Finding good handwriting
In order to practise good handwriting try to get some examples from internet or other sources and try to copy them. Make sure to get easy forms of handwriting that can be practised.
 Read and practise
Once the handwriting is achieved try to read as many books as possible and prepare summaries with time limits to achieve good yet rapid writing.
