Use of Fountain Pen in Calligraphy

Calligraphy is the art of writing letters. It is a visual art form. It expresses a harmonious flow of letters. It has been used since ancient times in manuscripts, scrolls, books, etc. The writing is stylized and elegant. Many countries have their own version of calligraphy writing for their languages. The origin of calligraphy can be traced back to China during Shang Dynasty. The principaltool was a brush and ink in olden times.
In the modern world, after the inventions of pens calligraphy art is also done with many forms of ink pens, especially fountain pens. There are dip pens and pens that can be used with ink cartridges. While using pens people keep blotting paper to absorb excess ink.
The tools required for calligraphy are a Fountain pen (dip or cartridge) or brush, leak-free paper or handmade paper, and a blotting cloth.
In order to achieve perfect calligraphy there are certain practices to follow:
• Draft the content that is to be written.
• Take a leak-free paper and very lightly write the content.
• Above it trace the content using the desired pen.
• Let it dry for an hour or two
• Erase any pencil marks and give a final touch.


The fountain pen is easy to use for beginners as it has a proper nib to write the letters in calligraphy. There are fountain pens with various nibs. So we can construct letters in various depts. And smoothness.
Fountain pens are very good for writing as it causes less strain on fingers and hence , less fatigue. It has an easy flow to produce continuity between the letters. It can be used for long hours as it sits perfectly between the fingers. A person can equally dispose of the pen to produce various strokes in the word. Calligraphy is an art that can be easily trained by those who have a good style of handwriting.
